The guides and the rest of the support crew were extraordinary in the way that they were always positive, always going out of their way to be helpful and make me more comfortable, lift my spirits, ensure my success in summiting. Often its the small things that make a big difference such as Adam giving me an extra sleeping bag mat, Jeremiah ensuring that the toilets were always clean and functioning, even in the middle of the night, Erik heating up the Nutella on a cold night and serving each meal with a huge smile. I found Davis to be incredibly competent and was fully confident in trusting him with my safety. My personal porter Deanna was so sweet. She was always telling me she “is here for me”. One thing you should do is tell women trekkers how cold it can get each night on the mountain and that they can’t expect to clean any clothes during the trek so they can be truly prepared (suggest bringing a hot water bottle for their sleeping bag). I fully support Peak Planet’s dedication to ensuring that the porters are treated fairly by working with their union. It was upsetting to see porters on the mountain who did not have adequate clothing or boots – I hope you guys make sure that this is not the case with the porters you hire. I also loved that you had us stay at the Stella Maris where the profits go the school.
