Rental Gear

We provide high quality “like new” rental gear that will serve you well during your climb. These items are quite expensive in the retail market and renting rather than buying can save you money. You can request to reserve rental gear by filling out our Rental Gear Request Form. You will pay for the rental equipment with US Dollars, 2009 and newer bills at the trip briefing; it is not included in your booking form and we do not accept Credit Cards. Cash only. Please note that the weight of sleeping cots, mattresses, trekking poles, and ALTOX are not counted towards your porter weight limit if rented from us. The weight of other itmes such as sleeping bag do count towards your porter weight limit as they will be transported in your  Kit Bag.

Head Lamp (with extra batteries)

The Petzl TIKKINA headlamp is ideal for illuminating short and medium distances, making it a great option for your Kilimanjaro hike.  The wide, diffused beam with a soft spot lightens distant objects, and its lightweight design makes the TIKKINA a versatile lamp with an output of 300 lumens and packed into 92 grams.

Insulated Jacket

Our Ferrino synthetic down jackets will keep you warm and toasty on Kilimanjaro’s cold nights. The PrimaLoft® Silver Insulation is engineered with millions of air pockets to trap body heat in extreme conditions. The lack of bulk means great freedom of movement for activity. And the water resistant treatment ensures it maintains its warmth properties even in wet conditions. The jacket is designed for durability, maximum comfort and protection.

Rain Jacket

The Ferrino MASHERBRUM jacket is a lightweight, resistant waterproof jacket for any outdoor activity, thanks to its excellent breathability. Easy to wear and comfortable, also during leisure time, this is a garment with a simple style but great versatility.

Day Pack

We carry three different model of Ferrino Day Packs.  The DURANCE 30 is a perfect 30 Liter multi purpose backpack with perfect back ventilation D.N.S. system, equipped with all accessories for very demanding trekkers.  The RUTOR 30 is a 30 Liter “light and fast” backpack ideal for trekkers who value light weight over support.  The ALTA VIA 35 is a spacious 35 Liter comfortable hiking backpack. It features a back with Dry Net System technology, a mesh that keeps the backpack away from your back while wearing it and prevents sweating in the entire contact area.

Gaiters

Ferrinos CERVINO gaiters are made with waterproof Supertex ® fabric.  With a side opening secured by velcro and press studs and an elastic top adjustment make for one touch closure.  The thin steel cable foot strap ensures reliability on rough terrain.

ALTOX Personal Oxygen

We are one of only a few Kilimanjaro operators that offer ALTOX Personal Oxygen Systems.

ALTOX is designed to aid climbers on their ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro. It can eliminate most if not all of the symptoms of altitude illness, in the process it can greatly improving your chances of a successful summit and making it a far more pleasurable experience.

An ALTOX Personal Oxygen System provides oxygen supply to a climber on the mountain. Oxygen is supplied directly into the nostrils via our silicone nasal cannula, rather than a facemask. The system utilizes a pulse dose meter which detects when the climber is commencing an inward breath.

A small and precise dose of oxygen is delivered during the first part of the inhalation, ensuring that the valuable oxygen reaches the deepest parts of the lungs. This method of dosing makes it possible for each oxygen cylinder to last for 7 to 10 hours.

Our mountain guides are all fully trained on how to deploy the system, making it easy and simple for you to use. Two oxygen canisters are included in each system, carried in a backpack. The first canister is used during an acclimatization hike to get you used to the system. The second canister is used on summit night. A guide will carry your normal daypack during summit night so that you do not have to carry both the weight in your pack and the oxygen system.

If you have any doubts about acclimatizing to high altitude, ALTOX is highly recommended.

Trekking Poles

Our rental trekking poles are lightweight aluminum telescopic poles of various brands. Rented in pairs. Trekking poles help take some of the weight off of your legs during the hike and transfer some of your weight into your arms. They also help your stability when hiking over uneven or wet terrain.

Mittens

Ferrinos WANAKA mitten provides a padded, waterproof and breathable mitten ideal for winter mountain activities. The preformed thumb and close-fitting cuff provide an excellent fit and boost sensitivity.
